Blender has no right to be as good as it is. I gave up using it after it took me two weeks to render a 1 minute animation on my PC
hmm it's pretty quick for me! i do everything on my macbook! you just have to know the stuff that takes a lot of computational power .. e.g. like making too many subsurface divisions will make your computer explode
