The discipline doesn’t mean go out and party lol .. I think he’s just saying to not to treat the ‘intellectual authorities’ as gods

Sure but often I find that just putzing around with whatever neat problems/ideas spark my interest often distracts me from concentrating on important subjects that I need to improve on to make progress, otherwise my knowledge becomes scattered, unorganized, even superficial...
