What?!??? Physics is chock full of symmetries, and group theory was developed to address exactly this stuff!!! Gee...I would tell you to take a course in group theory!

Group theory reading group when?

I am an experimentalist doing optics and I was introduced to group theory at least twice in my undergrad. But since each time the lecturer only cared to make examples and parallels to particle physics, it never made a ton of sense to me.

i think a typical physics training is often not exploring groups enough. is there a more fundamental application of math in physics? i think not.
