I've seen authors use colog_b(x) to denote the "cologarith" base b, which is defined to be the logarithm base 1/b. colog_b(x) is simply -log_b(x), and so it's not clear what purpose colog serves. Maybe some mnemonic purpose.

I use it* at work for calculating distance between points on the Earth's surface: "Here are all the ___ within 100 miles of Chicago!" *an implementation I copied from stackoverflow
