I spent most of my teenage years and some of my adult life identifying as an atheist, fully convinced that all religion was stupid and God did not exist. The version of religion I had been exposed to did not align with my own moral beliefs so I chose to focus on science instead.

A few years ago, I experienced some life events that made me less skeptical and more spiritual. Some bad things, some good - all of which felt as if they were meant to happen to me. The Universe was listening to me. It was on my side. So I began to listen to it as well.

I still don't believe in your traditional idea of God, or heaven and hell. I still think organized religion is man-made and typically only used to control people, but I also understand that some people need that direction.

Most people would rather think they know the absolute truth than accept uncertainty. I'm okay with not knowing how the Universe works and I don't need an answer for everything. I choose to see signs in my life and listen to my gut feelings. I guess that's my religion in a way.

Humans are a part of the Universe and the Universe is a part of us. Our biology mirrors nature. We mirror our own biology in the machines we create, even before we can fully grasp how we work.

I think there's an inherent understanding of the Universe in all of us that we don't know how to access. We're creating and receiving energy but can't decipher it. Maybe religious figures were more in touch with that side of humanity & their original intentions were to share it.

Somewhere along the line, our humanity was corrupted and greed became the main driving force for every aspect of our lives, religion included.

I prefer to think of my spirituality in more abstract terms. I believe in energy. I believe that the Universe guides us. I believe we guide it as well. I believe that we don't have the answers yet but someday we will. Science and religion will eventually converge.

I think understanding this energy is one of the most important spiritual and technological breakthroughs we've yet to make, and the biggest barrier is the "Science vs. Religion" mentality - because science can also be religion, and spirituality is not the enemy of science.

Long story short: organized religion is not my thing but I'm spiritual AF, the Universe is my religion, God is energy - and it's in all of us.pic.twitter.com/u0I2GnWJcR

Not unusual for a scientist. But that's cool too. We all have our own beliefs :)
