Those transformations at the end... Isn't there a better way to show the areas are the same? Seemed a bit magic to just morph the shapes.

No worries. It's always tricky to show these curved shapes have the same area! See, for instance, the surface area of a sphere.

I ideally I would “float” them into their final positions one by one symmetrically but didn’t want to code it up
