Correct it is also exactly the Polyakov action found independently by him and quantizing the bosonic string two refs: L. Brink, P. Di Vecchia and P. S. Howe: Physics Letters B, 65, pp. 369 and 471 Polyakov: Physics Letters B, 103, 1981, p. 207
