      This is about regularizing divergent sums, which is certainly well-defined in a certain sense. It has not much to do with dimensional regularization, however (afaik).

      How? The high-energy cutoff methods are almost identical to the real math Terry’s doing in this post. Dim-reg is just like “okay but what if we did it in 3.999.. dimensions instead of 4 lmao” I mean, I use it all the time but it feels *so* illegal

      everything is finite the entire time .. epsilon only goes to zero at the end .. calculus in fractal dimensions and in between fractal dimensions is completely understood
