spacetime is fundamentally more sketchy than, say, energy cutoff regularization. And the fact that dim reg works seems completely unrelated to the regulator independence for formally divergent integrals/sums.

How? The high-energy cutoff methods are almost identical to the real math Terry’s doing in this post. Dim-reg is just like “okay but what if we did it in 3.999.. dimensions instead of 4 lmao” I mean, I use it all the time but it feels *so* illegal
