I’m not sure it’s rude per se as it’s an acknowledgement at one level of awe at someone being able to do something they can’t. Especially with maths and anything with physics. More often than not it’s something quite stunning they have never seen before.

Your little vignettes of the maths and physics that moves the universe has motivated me to study such things myself. Already attending a course this semester in probability theory and looking at the calendar to start taking a course in calculus in the spring.
