Ah... ok so the permutaions makes more sense now...Is there an advantage to using this form over one with trig function?
Well the one with the trig function only gives you the magnitudes.. and indeed.. this is very useful when taking derivatives wrt components of a cross product for example

To add on: the right hand rule is included in the above notation through the use of the Levi-Civita symbol (usually it’s just understood or stated somewhere else), and (if I understand correctly) it is more easily applicable to tensor maths
