This seems to be a common argument among Stefan's fans: the size of his audience apparently makes him the "most influential modern philosopher," even though his actual philosophical contributions are scarcely mentioned, or perhaps just scarce altogether.

Scarcely mentioned where? What exactly does influence mean to you? If you were being listened to by millions of people, wouldn’t that be influence? I suspect he threatens the validity of your scholastic endeavors.

It would be strange for someone to claim to be the world's most influential scientist if they didn't have a single peer reviewed scientific paper.

I guess I think academic institutions and the peer-review process are an effective way of maintaining minimal standards. In any case, by the standard you're working with, Deepak Chopra is a more influential philosopher as he has over 3 million followers.

I don't think that's a helpful distinction. I believe Chalmers is currently working on a theory of dualism that invokes the notion that consciousness may cause the "collapse" of the quantum wave function.
