In the nonrelativistic case the fixed viewpoint would never see the back side of the die. How can the 4 side of the die become visible through apparent rotation?

Does this also apply in converse? E.g. that rotation is caused by length contraction. That would be surprising but you never know, many physical laws have some symmetry.
