indeed in a classical field theory the brachistochrone has a direct analog, however in a quantum field theory there will be quantum corrections to the classical path

right.. but the idea is that we can extend the lagrangian to fields instead of point particles is right.. it's just that adding a gauge theory would only complicate matters
