It turns out most (all?) initial values reach integer-periodic loops. In this image, black is the diverging fractal, blue points converge, orange points (small blob to the left of blue) reach a 2-periodic state, huge swathes (green) are 3-periodic. This is really nice!! How confident are you in this 2-periodic and 3-periodic thing? Could there be any numerical errors? So only that blob in the middle truly truly converges?
In terms of numerical issues, I guess I'd be looking for overflow and underflow?
