Funny you give that example! A collaborator and I have a short item coming out later this fall about the importance of mathematical conventions (such as the convention that ε is used as a small positive number).

I like the fact that Cantor called the first ordinal bigger than ω, ω^ω, ω^ω^ω, ... and so on "ε", or more precisely ε_0. It's like he was saying "and even this is puny compared to what's coming...."
