Here’s a weird disagreement in fundamental physics: you’ll often hear that general relativity is incompatible with quantum mechanics, but some physicists will tell you that this is outdated. They say that we can quantize general relativity, and specify its low energy EFT.

Yeah, that’s one of the pieces of ‘physical content’ I had in mind. Background independence is very rich in substance, and simply applying quantization methods successfully doesn’t make the problem go away.
