If a textbook ever wrote the expression above, I'd throw it out. There are standards for how to typeset simple maths problems, and 8÷2(2+2) is just absolute trash typesetting.

yeah, this debate is silly. the ÷ symbol shouldn't exist

However writing 8/2(2+2) has similar issues. I honestly hate these "problems" that are just poorly written in order to start an argument.
