I don’t remember it being all that long.. just integrate out dx^5 !
I thought also, the projective relativity related derivations of 4D gravity out of 5D gravity (e.g. W. Pauli and A. Pais) are more simple. But this calculation is really tedious/boring and did not find a way to do it much shorter. I did these calculations first in 1985 and 1994
Maybe that by using the "vielbein/tetrad formulation" (e) instead of the "metric tensor" (g~e^2) the calculation can be simplified. g_(ik)=e_(i)^(a)*e_(ka)
Any suggestions or detailed calculations supporting your claim? I suppose before integrating out, one still needs to compute in detail tedious expressions before total divergences pop-up and cancellations etc occur.
