I did actually try once to get myself in the habit of texing as I think, and then I ragequit when something fail to compile because it was set to revtex rather than revtex4-1
if they're personal notes, there's absolutely no reason to use revTeX

it's less about the specific document class and more that at least I haven't trained my mind to think in terms of document classes (or, honestly, in terms of code structure generally, and I have a weird lingering subconscious resistance to code-thinking from my freshman days)
