My students often get stuck when first attempting to solve the inclined plane. A common complaint I hear “I never know when to use cosine or sine!” I tell them it’s just a phase, and they’ll figure it out.

My students always get stuck on simple harmonic motion. They have their ups and downs. But because this is generally towards the end of the semester and is their last exam before finals they work extra hard not to hurt their grade. It's a good restoring force.
