I think one of the most important things I've learned as a scientist is to become comfortable saying things like: (1) "That's true, you're right." (2) "You make a good point." (3) "I'm not an expert in X, so I'll have to get back to you."

I think (3) shouldn't really be about "expertise," (which to me connotes "authority") but whether or not one has necessary background info or good, original ideas about a topic to engage.
