Make sure you use the same branch of log() for each instance of log(x).

It's still true so long as x<>0, x in the complexes, as long as, for each x, you fix log(x). (if you use a different branch of log(x) in different terms in the series you can mess things up, but if you fix log(x), it's still true.)
