To solve y'' + p(x) y' + q(x) y = 0, assume a power series for y, plug it in, and solve recurrence for coefficients.
The most general thing you could do is something called the "method of Frobenius". While still technically a power series the extra power of 𝑠 catches the terms that a "regular" power series guess would have missed.pic.twitter.com/9t7CVstYpS
