I would add that this is given the experimental results over the past few years, which have heavily constrained the WIMP parameter space. Initially, they were a good guess but nature just didn't say yes.

Yet. But the wimps parameter space is as I mentioned heavily heavily constrained. You can see in this plot that the cross section is getting "pushed" lower and lower at higher mass. This is why people are now exploring the avenue of "light" dark matterpic.twitter.com/n1EaZ2Rc2c
