The free particle is actually a propagating "wave packet" that spreads out over time
This spread corresponds to uncertainty in position

I'm curious, can the algorithm handle it if you start with an approximate delta peak, and what would it show?

The delta peak would just be my current gaussian initial state taking the spread Δx to be small.. So qualitatively it would show precisely the same evolution
