You can also read it off by demanding its derivative to be zero :) ln(x^x) = x * ln(x) Differentiate (d) both sides wrt x: 1/(x^x) d(x^x) = ln(x) + 1 Set d(x^x) = 0: ln(x) = -1 x = e^(-1) = 1/e
