So what makes us justified, even physically (I’m willing to relax any purely mathematical objections) to discard the term when it comes up in a calculation? Is there a good physics reason why the divergent term doesn’t screw life up?
It’s not that we’re disregarding it.. it’s just that it comes from the naive definitions we initially made, which break down at after quantum corrections..
