It's sort of amazing that Knuth - the great wizard of computer science - made TeX rely on a new kind of parentheses where a left parenthesis looks just like a right parenthesis: $ $ More amazingly, it also relies on a *different* kind that looks like this: $$ $$

For people who "write parsers", yeah. Not me. I'm sure I could learn it. I could also learn how to repair cars. But luckily, I don't need to: I've always bought cars that work well, so I can drive around and think about math instead of car repair.

Note: if this problem with TeX was *extremely* annoying, I would learn about regexps and parsers and use them to get around this problem. I'm only complaining about this problem because it's annoying yet not annoying enough to justify the time it would take to solve it!
