probably quite a pithy and accurate point. the major reason I find mathematics so appealing is the utter and shocking beauty and simplicity of the axiomatic principles of reality

approximate only inasmuch as we can determine them to be such. it's quite possible that what we view as fundamental may be in fact entirely wrong, but that could potentially be true about any belief where uncertainty in the outcome still remains strong
