I think the main thing that mathematical finitists get wrong is that numbers “actually” exist—let alone ought to be a certain way.

It's tempting to think that they would have a field of mathematics, which I'll grant for the sake of argument. Mathematics is a way of talking about patterns, and the universe has certain patterns. So if the aliens had the same physical intuition as us, 1/2

I think maths "exists" insofar as languages exist. All aliens would probably have some form of communication, but does that make it universal or that there is some deeper principle at work? Not really, it's just a useful form of communication in the universe we find ourselves in
