Our observable universe is not infinite, and nothing in it is infinite. The universe *could* be "infinity old", but that's a senseless notion, since at any given moment it will be some finite # of seconds old. As for the unobservable universe, your guess is as good as mine

If we have t=0, doesn’t that make the universe finite (or is that just the “observable universe)?

At any given moment yes, but in it could be infinite in the forward direction is what I meant (i.e. t ε [0, \infty))

Oh yeah I see that. I’m talking about past infinite. (-infinity,infinity). Is that possible or how else can we explain the origin of space-time itself?

In conversations like this we often should pause and ask ourselves at what *kind of* answer we are looking for

I don’t even know what kind of answers there could be so I won’t say I’m looking for anything specific . I’m just curious as to what the answers could be. I think much clarity can be done if the questions are framed linguistically well.

Well the answers truly could be anything, though we can do our best to have well informed priors of what is most likely

Do you think we know enough rn to have “well informed priors.” ? Some tend to act like we’re in that position but I don’t think we know enough about it yet even though there are some interesting models out there with fairly okay empirical basis.

According to his bio, he’s in economics lol not cosmology.

Justifying the priors is my job, convincing you it's reasonable to believe they are well informed is his job. He's my friend from undergrad.
