It’s the usual curse of knowledge. Zee is a QFT expert and that’s why his QFT book is not really helpful for beginners. In contrast his gravity book reads as if it were written with beginners eyes
@JakobSchwich your approach in Physics From Symmetry I found to be rather effective had it been the first book I picked up on it—which (I think) you were going for.. unfortunately I hadn’t come across it until I was 2 years into QFT :(
