The idea of what makes an acceptably rigorous proof evolved considerably in the following 100-150 years too. So much in fact that most of the proofs by "the master of us all" (in the words of Lagrange) would have been considered claims these days.

I agree.. The whole logical positivist movement (which ultimately failed thanks to Gödel) I think, in large part, was a big step forward..

I don't know how you define logical positivism, but I'm referring to the original movement that claimed that all true statements in the right axiomatic system are provable

Oh in the sense you just described it, you’re right. I was using the definition along the lines that says “the only meaningful statements are that which are subject to empirical analysis and/or logical/formal analysis”
