When we analytically continue the series for the riemann zeta function to this value, we get -1/12 without the divergence, right? Why does the analytic continuation act like some kind of MS scheme? I've never noticed.
imo it seems to imply that there is "something to" this sum.. the fact that it knows about such a uniquely defined thing such as the analytic continuation, means that somehow -1/12 does have a deep connection with the sum of the natural numbers
