This is a really odd piece . @rickygervais was making the point about complicity/ ‘not seeing’ sexual harrassment, grooming young people , paedophilic behaviour and endorsing morally questionable companies whilst wanting to be seen as morally pure. How was he cheapening it?

The piece is making two points: 1. Gervais was crass. (Whatever) 2. His attack on Greta blurred the line between attacking celebrities and attacking the climate consensus. My point: Dude is celebrity himself and guilty of the very same kind of prothletizing he is lambasting.

They weren't vital and deserved to be cheapened. Hollywood got told what the rest of the world actually thinks of them.

And they had to listen to it

No. Ricky Gervais merely said all the things the average American was thinking and he said it straight to the faces of those condescending d-bags in Hollywood that have been talking down to us and telling us how to live our lives while hypocritically behaving ungodly worse.

People are talking about the Golden Globes because of it. Ratings for award shows have dropped for years (many reasons why) but I don't remember talking about the Golden Globes at all since, um, hmmm. Thanks to Ricky we are still talking days later.

@rickygervais was brilliant. I actually watched the show again until@PattyArquette opened her mouth and then I quickly turned it off again. - 6 more replies
