Is there any specific reason as to why though? Seems strange that the audience can view in 1080p and third party tools can download that level but natively we can't. It basically encourages us to go elsewhere to rip our own content whenever necessary ha

There's that Google Takeout thing, which I THINK you can download all original files from your channel. Haven't tried it myself but I believe that's how it works

Not that I recommend it as it's against Youtube's ToS, but there is a way to manually download youtube videos without losing quality. Use in emergencies I guess.
