this was a MONUMENT for people that died on sea. i am the most non religious person out there, but this is not reli-marketing, it was a cross to commemorate people that died on sea.

So why was it not a sculpture of a boat and/or people? how is a cross related to people dying at see, don't see the connection, the cross is a symbol of christianity.

very good question. the reason is that orthodox greek christians use a cross to resemble the saviour from their bible. iconoclasm never solved anything. that would be the same as what muslims do when they destroy buddhist or christian art.

build something more appropriate next to it with an attached explanation as to why it's been done i don't agree with the destruction, just that the wrong questions are being asked in my opinion

Not fake, read the article - "Some local groups NGOs opposed the installation of the cross at the time claiming it was offensive to migrants who are not Christian. A few days later, the cross was found destroyed."
