Resilience has become so undervalued, but it’s actually more important than ever.
The best thing we can pass down to our kids is thick skin. Don't baby them, don't over protect them - one day, they'll be in the real world. They'll resent you if you don't prepare them for it. Love and nurture your kids but don't spoil them - they'll despise you for it later.

Having raised 3 kids, I couldn’t agree more. Bubble wrapping your children from the world makes them weak and unprepared for real life. Give them chances to do things - incl to fail and to learn from it. Teach them how to think logically & critically, how to debate w civility.

Absolutely agree, mine are only 3 but I hope I can help them build resilience - sometimes resilience is all I had to see me through some dark times, even if it feels like it’s lost sometimes

1/ Absolutely agree, plenty of research to support this principle! And though, the literature is also clear that it should be applied based on developmental readiness such that kids aren't left alone to flounder with things they're not cognitively, socially or emotionally ready

2/ to handle on their own yet. So throwing a kid in the deep end of the pool isn't the way they learn to swim, it's a way they get PTSD. But if a 10-year-old freaks out their first night at sleep-away camp, it's not in their best interest to run and bring them home right away.
