The ‘gender critical’ transphobes have decided today is #DetransAwarenessDay (
) so I would like to encourage everyone to follow and read what @reclaimingtrans says about detransitioning.
I find their insight intelligent, balanced and compassionate.https://link.medium.com/bUmbS9b6yeb

#DetransAwarenessDay was put together by a group of detransitioners to discuss our experiances and concerns. This has nothing to do with "the ‘gender critical’ transphobes." We won't let people be mislead to think detransition is a hateful thing - it helped many of us.1 reply 2 retweets 47 likes -

The problem is that it's being pushed prominently by Kiera Bell and transgender trend. If they weren't in on it it would be really different. I'm glad detransition helped you.

Of course she should be. But she is also fighting to increase gatekeeping for trans people in the UK and I can see why that gives the wrong impression

Here's someone whose endocrine system is being controlled against her will by the GIC. Kiera Bell is part of a movement to hand even more power to these systems, and to the courts too. This is a problem for trans people and detransitioners alikehttps://twitter.com/MediocreDruid/status/1370367061478813696 …

Λrden @MediocreDruidI told them, "I am a woman and I regret my transition" and they told me that I was not female anymore. They said I could prove my "female identity" by dressing femininely and wearing wigs. My gender non-conformity was used against me as some sort of "gotcha". 4/6Show this thread2 replies 1 retweet 9 likes -

I firmly believe that people should be able to change gender presentation, hormones, pronouns, names etc as many times in their life or as frequently as they want to. The gender clinics need to have an affirming, not gatekeeping role for this to happen.

The Keira Bell case focused on children receiving puberty blockers. Finding it's highly unlikely that young children would be competent enough to give consent to being given blockers or understand the long-term risks and consequences of treatment. It was to protect children.

Kiera Bell wasn't a child when she made the decision to go on testosterone. The blockers are mostly reversable (may have some side effects) and it's important to empower young people to decide when they're older. Why would you not want to give people time?

I'm sure that you have unwanted body changes that result from testosterone -- I do too. The purpose of puberty blockers is to make sure that nobody has to live with those changes. Why would you not support that?

Because the NHS state "Little is known about the long-term side effects of puberty blockers in children...It's also not known whether hormone blockers affect the development of the teenage brain or children's bones." I don't want to turn children into guinea pigs.

I think there can be some risks from a medication and it still be better than unwanted testosterone/estrogen. Frankly the argument here should be for better data, not for an outright ban. Why did Kiera not go to court to force them to fund a study into long term side effects?

That's wild considering it's only ever been used for children, for decades. It's been in use since the 80s. It wasn't a problem until now.
