She had a medical reason to get a mastectomy. Life or death operations aren't in the same league.
It's not the "reason" that makes something mutilation. Mutilation is by definition the infliction of disfigurement. If my chest is "mutilated" then so is every other chest that has had a mastectomy, regardless of the reason.
You are probably right, but when I hear of a woman who had to have a mastectomy, I don't think of her as "mutilated", because she had a medical reason for the op. On the other hand, young girls who CHOSE to have a mastectomy are, to me, mutilated. By choice, but mutilated.
For me it's like people who cut themselves. I have a scar on my arm from an accident years ago. My friend has scars all up her arms and thighs because she used to cut herself as a teenager. She mutilated herself and says as much, I had an accident. BUT... 1/X
