When I see efforts to study detransition being accused of “transphobia,” a few thoughts occurs to me: What are they so afraid of? Don't they care about dysphoric youth? The existence of trans people already proves that transition helps many – that is not what's being questioned.

The problem is that truly transphobic people are referencing detrans people in their cause, and some detrans are pretty GC as well, so detrans is automatically sus and it's captured a lot of clinicians and researchers.

I don't see being GC as a bad thing. When I see genuine transphobia I will call it out, but given the rise in gender clinic referrals detransitioners, we need answers. Dysphoric people deserve adequate care and they're not getting it because clinicians are afraid of activists.

It messes with the “born this way” narrative and shifts trans back to being a mental health issue—there are a lot of people who don’t want to believe this

Yeah, I actually have a concern that so many loud voices denying and maligning detransitioners could actually cause the mainstream to overgeneralize and start distrusting trans people - that's why I wish more sane, normal trans people would start making noise, too.
