A disturbing aspect of being trans: my need to hide my struggles "Everything's great. Transition saved me. I'm better now" - all while my depression and drinking spiraled out of control As a trans man I couldn't admit to weakness for fear transition would be doubted. So harmful

Didn't fall into drinking or anything like that but I became dangerously obsessed with working out to the point I started hurting myself to get stronger.. I was running from the girl I used to be, because I didn't want to be that weak girl.

I've spoken to a lot of detrans women who say the same, so you're not alone. Drinking was my cope. For others it's food, others it's drugs, others so much worse. Detrans stories are so sad - all because we couldn't bring ourselves to be honest about how transition was harming us.
