As a detransitioner, one thing you'll notice when you begin to manage your dysphoria on your own, without continuing with transition, is the high likelihood that you'll be hit with the phrase “that's because you were never really trans!!” 1/2

Surely anyone who has used hormones and/or surgery to change their sexual characteristics can be defined as trans? I think what angers me is the belief that desisters or detans don't have dysphoria. The majority do, they just realise transition isn't helpful/a cure.

I suspect that many see being trans as a magical, retrospective fate so if someone is trans - they always were. Also if someone rejects this "blessed" state then, retrospectively, they never were trans. This is probably to put faith before reason and to punish dissent.

The diagnosis is a bit too easy to get then, if you were "never really trans". But God forbid we ask them to tighten up the process.

Reminds me of the Jesus freaks who insist ex-Christians never really were Christian. However, you have the scars to prove it. Not all formerly religious people have physical scars.

They're right, but only halfway. If you were never trans, then they aren't, either. The way in which you were not trans is the way in which no-one is, it's a label for a bunch of things which probably don't amount to a stable kind.

I forgot if you said, but did you have dissociation as part of your gender dysphoria? If so, was it worse during transition? Talked to a trans teen recently & they described state of permanent moderate dissociation. Similar to my PTSD.

Unfortunately I did. A particularly bad dissociative episode landed me on a psych ward in 2014. I've never really spoken about that on here, I still struggle to understand exactly what happened during said episodes.
