That's not surprising, sadly. The first time I learned what desistance and detransition was was online when I saw them sharing their stories. No mention of it by my GP or at my gender clinic.

Because of the fear that it will be misused against transgender people. I do have some fear of that as well but it doesn’t outweigh the importance of the truth for me.

Mars, I think you are doing a lot to keep people from thinking transition is always bad just by being healthy and well adjusted on Twitter as you engage on this stuff.

I think we started to run into real trouble when affirmation became the norm. It is no longer ok to ask questions like are you sure? Do you understand the commitment of medical transition? Are you aware of the side effects and risks of HRT? These questions are important.

You aren't wrong... and if you look at some of the communities and what gets told to detransitioners, they even tell us not to call ourselves detransitioners as that's a political term meant to hurt trans people.
-
People who thought they were trans but discovered otherwise, and those who gave up because it was just "not worth the pain" do need to have their stories told. What should and must never happen is hate groups using this rare phenomenon to justify harm to others.

Honestly? Fans of any medical procedures or treatments end up rabid fans. I've seen so many attacked for refusing to take pharmaceuticals, refusing surgeries, all in areas that aren't trans related. They feel personally attacked, even without the layer of self righteousness.
