Yes. He said it was too late, which might be true, but I also got the impression that he had a predetermined narrative in place and didn't want to add anything that might call it's basic assumptions into question, revealing the need for more reasearch.

That is a simplistic take on his part in my opinion. Being a healthy functioning person takes hard work, it’s not fun. & sometimes it’s a life long issue. But so are many things, addiction , other mental health issues. Transitioning comes with painful harmful side effects.
I agree. While I'm doing much better now, the first 6-8 months of my detransition were incredibly hard. I'm far more comfortable with myself now having gotten through all that. Still, if someone believes detransition isn't for them and want to retransition, more power to them.
