I'm desisted, but the narrative was from the internet, 100%, especially YouTube.

It wasn't so much YouTube for me, it was blogs and forums. I really doubt I would've sought transition had I not went down that rabbit hole.

hard to say. my desire to transition (over any other way of coping with dysphoria) was definitely exacerbated by "speaking" to trans people (speaking in quotes because i was encouraged) online and friends deciding to transition,
-
however the last decade has been so trans-positive, it's difficult to imagine the last decade just "not happening" the way it did.

Social contagion. When the internet became ubiquitous in young lives thru social media & smart phones, it really took off. (the internet in 1995 was a very different place)

I know for sure that it made a difference for my son (ROGD at 16) as he “discovered he is trans” online. Also, one of his best friends (FtM) transitioned at the same time.

Sorry Watson, I just realized you’d asked for trans/desisters to respond ... didn’t mean to barge in!

As a teen, I fantasized about getting a double masectomy. It just wasn't reality yet that I could do such a thing. I still struggle with having breasts, but I've moved past the desire for surgery. Had I been a teen today, i guarantee I would be pushing for HRT and surgery.
-
I didn’t want breasts as a teen either, mostly because of the unwanted attention that came with it
