Even after the progress I've made - and I'm proud of how far I've come - I still find myself laying awake at 3am, overwhelmed by the thought I was born wrong, I should be male etc I can't explain the times I'm so disgusted by my sex that I need to drink myself blind to cope 2/x

And no, this isn't a pity party - I'm so fucking over pity at this stage, it's insulting This is an awareness conversation The reason I support trans adults is because I get it. I can absolutely see how transition can seem like the best option and can genuinely help 3/x

But because there *is* regret, there *are* detransitioners, we *need* to know more about gender dysphoria. A lot more, given the stakes. We need alternative treatments, we need options, we need research. We need the truth - that transition is NOT always the best option. 4/x

We need to know why some people are so unbearably uncomfortable with their biological sex, even after gender transition has been attempted and has failed. Why has nobody - not a single GP, therapist, social worker, councillor or psychiatrist been able to help me with this? 5/5

Would you be open to talking about it sometime with a perfect stranger who works in the field? I have thoughts and questions.
-
I'd be willing to talk to anyone in the field who'd listen. Frankly, most of the mental health personnel that I've dealt with (in person) were too uncomfortable with the topic.

I wish I knew what it was too! My son has been suffering for almost 4 years with gender dysphoria and nobody seems to know how to help, not even the experts :(
-
My heart goes out to you both, I know it's not easy. If you want me to put you in contact with some men who suffer from GD (lovely, reasonable folks only) I'd be happy to.

how would you explain the difference between just being a tomboy and actually having gender dysphoria?
-
I'm sure every tomboy is different, but in my opinion, a tomboy is a girl who is happy being a "boyish" girl. A girl with gender dysphoria hates being a girl, and wishes she were literally a boy.
