It seems like successful transitions occur when internally they already felt completely like the other sex and so when their appearance matched, it felt congruent. You did not have that internal confidence though. Like weight loss, it has to have a satisfying end to be healthy.
But how do you feel completely like the other sex when you weren't born as it? I can totally understand the desire to *be* male, but I never felt completely male because I was born female. The wish and envy is there, but the experience isn't.
Well I think you'd have a better feeling of being the opposite gender if you transitioned young. To learn and grow as young person. A middle aged trans person is always going to lack that experience. GC brigade hold both young & late transition as wrong, go figure.
