Can't believe this has to be said, but thanks to Joanna Cherry there's now serious historical misinformation being spread across various Yes/SNP groups. Ireland didn't negotiate independence because of electoral success, it was *because* there was a civil war in the first place.

The Royal Irish Constabulary, which was the arm of the British State, had committed various atrocities against the Irish public - including shooting up a football stadium and murdering innocent civilians in 1920. These acts have Irish republicans the political capital to -

negotiate independence. But more importantly, this was backed up by *civil disobedience* by the Irish public. There was a SUPER CLEAR mandate from the Irish populace that wasn't in question. All this happened whilst Ireland was literally partitioned.

Negotiation didn't actually start off as independence talks - they were ceasefire negotiations to end the war. So even looking from it from that point of view, Joanna Cherry's proposal idea would still require a large degree of violence to occur before Scotland can talk indy.

And because of the political/religious tensions created by the war, the British State bit off an arm of Ireland and continued to institutionally oppress Irish Catholic for decades to come. It's been over 100 years since then and we *still* see violence to this day.

Joanna Cherry is a deceitful moron, who is intentionally spreading historical misinformation. Her misinformation is dangerous as it spurs aggressive ideas and suggestions to activists in the completely wrong context. This sort of language is not going to end well.

Calling someone "a deceitful moron" is an intemperate expression of personal animosity and contempt that immediately undercuts any pretension to expressing reasonable disagreement with their views. In fact, it indicates a level of deceit that perhaps includes self-deceit.

I make it no secret that I have zero tolerance to bigots like Cherry, who is an apologist for sleazy politicians like Salmond and is a transphobe who denies the existence of transwomen. I merely state the facts in this thread, and thus far no Cherry supporter has refuted.

Bigot is a strong word that needs backing up. What evidence do you have that Cherry is a transphobe?
